England’s 153-run victory over Australia in the fifth Ashes test at the Oval ensures the visitors 22-year wait for a series win in this country continues and brings to an end a fantastic summer of cricket.
The excitement and drama we have been treated since England’s World Cup opener against South Africa arguably outweighs any previous year.
With the win at the Oval signifying the end of the summer, a number of England players took to Instagram to issue their final verdict.
The England veteran may not have been involved with the World Cup but he’s played a starring role in the Ashes and reminded everyone that he is still one of the finest bowlers in the game.
The way he dominated Australia’s David Warner was particularly entertaining, dismissing him seven times in the series.

An incredible summer of International cricket comes to a close. Proud of what @englandcricket has achieved. A World Cup win & a drawn Ashes series. Obviously dreamt of regaining them but a drawn series was probably a fair result for two similar teams. It’s been Ashes cricket at its best. Special to play in & hopefully inspires a new generation to play our game. What a sport. I love it. #cricket
What a phenomenal summer Archer has had. He’d never played on the international stage prior to 2019 but he is now surely one of the most feared bowlers in both tests and limited-overs cricket.
Archer was integral to the World Cup win and then blew away the Aussies in the Ashes series, finishing as England’s second-leading wicket-taker despite only playing in four matches.
The 21-year-old had to be patient for his chance to get involved in England’s historic cricketing summer.
Curran got his chance at the Oval and certainly made his mark, taking three wickets in the first innings and giving Steve Smith, in particular, some real issues.
